Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

Decibe is operated by Smitteck GmbH, a company registered in the Canton of Zurich, Switzerland. We are the data controller for any personal data processed through this service.

2. What data we collect

  • Decision context — the text you type describing your decision. We automatically strip personally identifiable information (names, emails, phone numbers, addresses) before processing or storing.
  • Answer patterns — your A/B choices and timing data (how long you took to answer each question).
  • Device type — mobile, tablet, or desktop (for UX optimization).
  • Email address — only if you choose to email yourself a result. Used solely to send the requested email.
  • Browser locale — to serve questions in your language.

3. What we do NOT collect

  • We do not use cookies for tracking or advertising.
  • We do not collect your IP address beyond standard server logs.
  • We do not require account creation.
  • We do not track you across websites.

4. How we use your data

  • To generate your recommendation — your answers are sent to Google Gemini (AI) to produce a personalized result.
  • To improve question quality — anonymized answer patterns (without any personal context) are used to optimize which questions are most useful for future users.
  • To send you email — only if you request it, and only for the specific result you asked for.

5. PII stripping

Before your decision text is processed by AI or stored in our database, we automatically remove: email addresses, phone numbers, physical addresses, credit card numbers, social security numbers, IP addresses, URLs, IBAN numbers, and names mentioned in identifiable context (e.g., "my name is...").

6. Third-party services

  • Google Gemini — processes your (PII-stripped) decision text to generate questions and recommendations. Subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
  • Google Firestore — stores session data in Google Cloud (europe-west6, Zurich).
  • Google AdSense — displays contextual advertisements based solely on the page content (e.g., the decision topic), not on your personal data, browsing history, or cookies. We have explicitly configured non-personalized ads. No personal data is sent to Google for ad targeting. Ads do not influence questions or recommendations.

7. Data retention

Anonymous sessions without an account expire after 24 hours. Anonymized corpus data (answer patterns without personal context) is retained indefinitely to improve question quality.

8. Your rights

Under Swiss data protection law (nDSG) and the GDPR (where applicable), you have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data. Since we strip PII automatically, most stored data is already anonymized. To exercise your rights, contact us at privacy [at] smitteck [dot] com.

9. Email unsubscribe

Every email we send includes an unsubscribe link. Clicking it permanently blocks your email address from receiving further emails from Decibe.
